About the YWCA of Central NJ

The YWCA of Central NJ was incorporated in New Jersey in 1907. Since that time, the YWCA has dedicated itself to serving girls, women, and families through a variety of programs. The mission of the YWCA is the empowerment of women and the elimination of racism.

The YWCA of CNJ is located at 232 E. Front Street in Plainfield, New Jersey. The historic building, which has three floors and a basement, was constructed in 1925. It was designed by Arthur Ware of F.B. & A Ware, a noted New York City architectural firm that was recognized for the designs of many Y.W.C.A buildings throughout the United States. Most of the building’s original details, finishes, and floor plan, as well as its 1920s Tudor Revival façade, are still present in the building.

Currently, the facility houses up to 150 children per day in our child care center, afterschool program, and summer camp program. Other services and programs include our Career Options Center, Tribute to Women and Industry (TWIN) corporate recognition program, and our fitness center.
